Manchester Orchestra made a stop on their current tour in Tempe at the Marquee on Saturday night, supported by Biffy Clyro and The Features. The crowd turnout was lackluster compared to some shows at the Marquee as of lately, but the people that were there, were excited.
Biffy Clyro opened up the show, coming all the way from Scotland. The shirtless trio were intense as they played, sometimes almost seemed completely focused on their instruments and playing their music. There was not a lot of interaction with the fans but were riveting to watch. Biffy Clyro just recently won the NME Award for best music video for their video for their song “The Captain”
The Features were next in the line up. The Features are from Tennessee and have a similar sound to Manchester Orchestra. There was some interaction with the crowd and everyone seemed to like what they were hearing while playing songs like “Lions” and “Late Night”. It seemed as though that by the time The Features were done, the crowd had doubled in anticipation for Manchester Orchestra.
When some bands come on stage there is a big build up with lights, fog, background music but Manchester Orchestra seemed like the appeared out of nowhere. As excited as the crowd was to see Manchester Orchestra, Manchester Orchestra was excited to play their songs. Drummer/Keyboardist/Percussionist, Chris Freeman is fascinating to watch as he turns away from his instruments as he rocks in his chair to the beat of a breakdown. Manchester Orchestra played a solid set with songs like “The Only One“, “Shake It Out” and even a new song “Wolves”.
