PAT METHENY
THE ORCHESTRION TOUR
Saturday, April 17, 2010
Ikeda Theatre at Mesa Arts Center
(Phoenix, AZ) – Genre-shattering guitarist and composer Pat Metheny once again explores new territory during The Orchestration Tour, stopping in Phoenix Saturday, April 17, 2010 for an 8:00 p.m. performance at the Ikeda Theatre at Mesa Arts Center. The Seventeen-time Grammy Award-winner’s forthcoming album Orchestrion is set to release January 26 on Nonesuch Records (February 9 on vinyl).
Over the course of more than three decades, Metheny has set himself apart from the jazz mainstream, expanding and blurring boundaries and musical styles. His record-setting body of work includes seventeen Grammy Awards in twelve separate categories; a series of influential trio recordings; award winning solo albums; scores for hit Hollywood motion pictures; and collaborations and duets with major artists such as Ornette Coleman, Steve Reich, Charlie Haden, Brad Mehldau, and many others. His band, the Pat Metheny Group, founded in 1977, is the only ensemble in history to win Grammys for seven consecutive releases.
Aside from all the critics awards and fan accolades, Pat’s focus remains continually on the breaking down of barriers and the exploration of new musical ideas. This tour is no exception as Pat moves from brilliant solo guitar improvisations to the unveiling Orchestrionics. The performance will feature music from the forthcoming CD as well as some older tunes from the Metheny songbook.
